Bonnie, a brown female Chihuahua, is 8-10 years old and weighs almost 10 pounds. She came into the Oakland shelter as a stray on Halloween 2017 and instantly charmed all of the volunteers who met her with her sweet, unassuming personality. Bonnie was very thin with a dull, patchy coat when she came into the shelter but has blossomed into a sleek, shiny beauty in her foster home.
Bonnie is very easy-going and quiet, and loves people, including children. Her favorite activity is sitting on your lap or being held in your arms. Bonnie prefers being carried to walking so she rides in a front-pack when we go for walks; she loves to be part of the action! She gets along wonderfully with other dogs and while she doesn’t love the two cats in her foster home, she is harmless and will stay away from the cats when told “no.”
Bonnie is crate-trained, house trained and has been spayed, fully vaccinated and recently had her teeth cleaned. Despite being practically perfect, Bonnie has been available for adoption since November without a single adoption inquiry; and unfortunately, she may get even less interest now, because over the past couple of weeks, Bonnie has been losing her vision. She gets around remarkably well, relying on her other senses, but does need to be carried on stairs, especially going downstairs, to prevent a fall. Potential adopters must meet Bonnie in person in Oakland, California and can make arrangements to meet her by emailing oasfostering@gmail.com.
