Hello there! My name is Joey, I’m a playful 1.5 year old Chihuahua/Dachshund mix, weighing in at about 7 pounds of cuteness.

I was brought to the shelter in late August as a stray with 6 other dogs, most were extremely feral and unable to handle, sadly my brother and I were the only two to make it. My brother was taken by a Canadian rescue and after several weeks of shelter volunteers working with me I was placed in a foster home. My foster mom saw my potential through my shyness and I’ve been thriving ever since!

Funny story on how I got my name…my BFF/foster kid named me Joey because I would stand up like a kangaroo when I got shy around other humans (funny picture below). My invisibility cloak just worked better when I stood up. I’m glad they understood I was shy and had enough patience to let me come around when I was ready. Now after my morning potty outside, I wake the little human up with kisses and beg her to take me for a Puppichino- she never does but I get chicken for breakfast which is good too.

I’m very happy and dog social; I love car rides especially to the dog park. I’m a great co-pilot and passenger! Did I mention I love the dog park?!? I’m a dogs’ dog, so you’ll have to give me like 12 hours say hi to everyone and let me run, run, run. Disclaimer: You may or may not have to run after me when it’s time to go home! I would love to have a fur sibling in my forever home, but as long as you socialize me I’ll be happy as a clam.

I enjoy long walks and exploring scents and sounds, I’m great on leash and will stay right by your side. I have amazing potty skills, I’m house-trained and pick up new routines fast. I’m quiet and don’t make much noise, so I’d do great in an apartment or condo. I’m great with kids and affectionate, but because I’m shy it takes me time to warm up to anyone. Just be patient and I’ll come around.

I’m also silly, so you can always count on my to make you laugh, my foster mom caught me using my dog bed as a pillow! If you’re looking for a social, fun, loving chi-here I am and ready for my forever home!
